The art of the dust jacket deserves far greater attention than it has received from historians of visual culture. The covers of books often serve as the iconic shorthand by which we identify the object. They reveal commercial aims and mark period styles. This evolving media form is little more than a century old. Reproduced herein are the dust jackets and wraps of the earliest English language versions for several dozen works of fiction and non-fiction from the Caribbean and Latin America.
